About Wonky Penguin Games

Our Story
How a dream, a penguin, and a little holiday chaos launched a game company.

For Will Terry, creating a card game wasn’t just a passing idea—it was a dream decades in the making. As a children’s book illustrator for over 35 years, Will has spent a lifetime telling stories through art. His work has appeared in books, advertising campaigns for brands like Pepsi, Target, and FedEx, and even on games for Hasbro and Gamewright. But nothing quite compares to dreaming up your own rules, designing your own characters, and producing a fully functioning game from scratch.

In 2023, Will finally began developing his very first card game: Wicked Christmas—a light-hearted, slightly chaotic game set in Santa’s workshop where holiday stress leads to a hilarious avalanche of accidents and mayhem.

As Will prepared to launch the game on Kickstarter in 2024, he realized something critical was missing: graphic design. He had the art. He had the story. But he needed someone who could pull it all together in a professional, visually clear, and engaging package.

That’s when he reached out to Anthony Benicki, a former student from Will’s online illustration school, SVSLearn.com. Anthony had volunteered to help Will with a previous self-publishing project the year before, impressing him with his sharp eye for design, web development skills, and talent for managing complex creative systems. Will instantly knew Anthony would be the perfect partner for this new venture.

Together, they formed Wonky Penguin LLC—a company dedicated to producing fun, family-friendly games designed especially for holiday gatherings. They launched their first Kickstarter campaign in October 2024 and quickly found an enthusiastic audience of Christmas lovers and game night families. The campaign sold around 2,000 copies of Wicked Christmas, and they continue to sell the game directly from their website today.

Their debut game, rated G for general audiences, brings laughter and good-natured competition to the holiday season. With its original art, whimsical theme, and just the right amount of chaos, Wicked Christmas has become a new tradition for many families.

Will and Anthony are now working on their next release: a Thanksgiving-themed mash-up game that brings the same humor, charm, and visual storytelling to the dinner table. They're also expanding their reach by connecting with gift shops, Christmas year-round stores, game stores, and toy retailers to bring their unique games to shelves across the country.

At Wonky Penguin, we believe in creativity, laughter, and the magic that happens when families gather around a table to play together.
